The wow players leaving for ffxiv is a self-described ‘MMO-lite’ offering battleground PvP ‘without the grind’. Soul Kingdoms has been in development since 2013, and recently released an alpha version of its game.
What if the areas and styles of MMORPG PvP battlegrounds were the whole game? That seems to be the general gist of Soul Kingdoms, a game in development by Power Proc Studios that bills itself as a “MMO-lite” in that it avoids many of the usual MMORPG roadblocks that stand in the way of PvPers and their next battle.
In Soul Kingdoms, players will be able to go straight into PvP battlegrounds without having to worry about level limitations. There will be some kind of character development system, but the game’s website doesn’t say much about it other than that it won’t need players to fulfill a task list to progress. Players may anticipate large-scale conflicts or smaller-scale skirmishes on various battlegrounds, as well as varied maps and scenarios including GvG territorial battles. Combat will be action-oriented, with a mouselook aiming system with soft-lock or pure-aim abilities.
Players will be able to meet in a town center area to fight target dummies and locate locations to play minigames or participate in special events, giving the game a social aspect.
In terms of how the game will be funded, the company plans to use crowdsourcing, but not via sites like Kickstarter. Instead, the fundraising effort will be managed via the game’s website and will follow a milestone system, with new feature sets being available through crowdsourcing. Soul Kingdoms will not remain under crowdfunding forever, according to the website, which pledges to offer a detailed roadmap outlining the route to launch and how many milestones will be required to get there. This fundraising effort is expected to begin around the end of October.
The game did have a public play test this past April, but no release date has been set. In the meanwhile, you can learn more about the game on its website, and you can see a gameplay video below.
